One of the longest beach in asia, located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Belonging to the bay of Bengal ,a part of indian ocean. It extends from fort st. George from north Chennai running along and till besant nagar , covering 13 km. therefore considered world’s 11^th longest beach. The beach is crowded by the local as well as rural inhabitants .  it has a width of atleast 300 m . An estimation of 30,000 people crowd the beach per day.

Some of the important buildings include :

• M.A.Chidambaram Cricket Stadium, Chepauk (Chennai)- Where most of the nail-bitting  crickets have been played.

• University of Madras- One of the oldest university in India and chennai.

• Public Works Department (PWD) Complex - A Department which is authorised for government building ,bridges and road construction.

• Presidency College- An arts ,law and science college in chennai, just as the one in kolkata named presidency college , which is one among the two presidency college found by the britisher's

• Vivekananda House- A place which is exhibited in name of swami vivekananda,where he stayed for nine days ,when he visited chennai in 1897.

• Queen Mary's College : It is the first women college in the city ( so you can see men outside the campus, when the bells rings for home )

• All India Radio, Chennai : AIR - nothing more than a government radio station .

Events:

The annual Independence Day and the Republic Day ceremonial parades and airshows are held.

The annual idol-immersion event following the Hindu festival of Vinayaka Chathurthi takes place at the beach where most of the idols of Lord Ganesh kept on display during the festival in the city is immersed into the sea.






The beach receives the maximum number of visitors on the Kannum Pongal day, when about 150,000 people come to the beach.

The annual Chennai Marathon is held in the beach starting from the Anna Square to Annai Velankanni Church on the Elliot's Beach in Besant Nagar.

Other extra fittings :

• On either side of the beach road,  white bright lights are found just like a UFO , with white light under it. Such amazing design gives a pleasant view for the road

• In december 2004 the beach got devastated by tsunami ,killing more than 1000 lives.

• A light house is seen painted with beech colour and measures 15ft in height . can visit from 10 AM to 10 PM.

• you can buy sundal (boiled chick pea with spices and vegetables) and ice cream, fish fry and bajji,bonda  (besan gram related food stuff with vegetables) all these completes the day at the beach .

Mylaporean's asset , "Lord kapaleeshwarar temple "

Kapaleeshwarar Temple is a temple of shiva located in mylapore,chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.According to thepuranas,, shakthi worshipped Shiva in the form of a peacock, giving the vernacular name Mylai ( which is presently called mylapore) to the area that developed around the temple - mayil is Tamil for "peacock". Shiva is worshiped as Kapaleeshwarar, and is represented by the lingam.

The panguni festival : This festival is celebrated in the month of mid- march to mid- april month for nine long days .

The festival panguni peruvizha (spring festival) has five categories :

Dwajarohanam
Brahmotsavam
Therotsavam
Arupathimoovar festival and,
Tirukkalyanam

DWAJAROHANAM : The festival starts with flag hoisting which the word describes in sanskrit.

BRAHMOTSAVAM : The idols of Kapaleeshwarar and Karpagambal are decorated with clothes and jewels, are mounted on a vahana, and then taken around the temple and its water tank in a pradakshinam called as theppa thiruvizha ( theppa - a ferry like vessel over which the idols of the god is placed )

THEROTSAVAM: grand prelude to mylapore's biggest festival (a well said caption from :THE HINDU ).The decorated god is placed on the vahana , is taken around mylapore's important location .

ARUPATHIMOOVAR FESTIVAL  :The Arupathimoovar festival is the most important procession.It is named after the sixty-three Nayanmars who have attained salvation by their love & devotion to the all-compassionate Lord Shiva. All sixty-three Nayanmar idols follow the Kapaleeshwarar idol on this procession. This takes place on the eight day.

TIRUKALYANAM : And finally the marriage between the god and the goddess (kapaleeshwarar and karpagaambal)

HUNGRY FISH : " DON'T FORGET TO MEET THEM "The temple's large tank is full of hungry fish who have an easy life, devouring bread and other offerings from temple-goers.
