The brown sand , 'Marina' .

One of the longest beach in asia, located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Belonging to the bay of Bengal ,a part of indian ocean. It extends from fort st. George from north Chennai running along and till besant nagar , covering 13 km. therefore considered world’s 11th longest beach. The beach is crowded by the local as well as rural inhabitants .  it has a width of atleast 300 m . An estimation of 30,000 people crowd the beach per day.




Buildings along the beach :


Some of the important buildings include :


  • M.A.Chidambaram Cricket Stadium, Chepauk (Chennai)- Where most of the nail-bitting  crickets have been played.
  • University of Madras- One of the oldest university in India and chennai.
  • Public Works Department (PWD) Complex - A Department which is authorised for government building ,bridges and road construction.
  • Presidency College- An arts ,law and science college in chennai, just as the one in kolkata named presidency college , which is one among the two presidency college found by the britisher's
  • Vivekananda House- A place which is exhibited in name of swami vivekananda,where he stayed for nine days ,when he visited chennai in 1897.
  • Queen Mary's College : It is the first women college in the city ( so you can see men outside the campus, when the bells rings for home )
  • All India Radio, Chennai : AIR - nothing more than a government radio station .

Events:



The annual Independence Day and the Republic Day ceremonial parades and airshows are held.







The annual idol-immersion event following the Hindu festival of Vinayaka Chathurthi takes place at the beach where most of the idols of Lord Ganesh kept on display during the festival in the city is immersed into the sea.






The beach receives the maximum number of visitors on the Kannum Pongal day, when about 150,000 people come to the beach.





The annual Chennai Marathon is held in the beach starting from the Anna Square to Annai Velankanni Church on the Elliot's Beach in Besant Nagar.


Other extra fittings :



  • On either side of the beach road,  white bright lights are found just like a UFO , with white light under it. Such amazing design gives a pleasant view for the road

  • In december 2004 the beach got devastated by tsunami ,killing more than 1000 lives.

  • A light house is seen painted with beech colour and measures 15ft in height . can visit from 10 AM to 10 PM.

  • you can buy sundal (boiled chick pea with spices and vegetables) and ice cream, fish fry and bajji,bonda  (besan gram related food stuff with vegetables) all these completes the day at the beach .
